Lazy Kates
A lazy kate is a device which holds your bobbins of yarn while plying to help prevent you from ending up with a tangled mess. Lazy kates are also useful for storing empty bobbins.
Some lazy kates come with a tensioning device such as a brake band. Tensioned lazy kates are a bit easier to use than untensioned ones, because they help prevent your bobbins from spinning backwards when you’re trying to ply.

When buying a lazy kate, you’ll want to make sure that it holds enough bobbins for the yarn you like to make. For example, if you often make three-ply yarn, you’ll want to make sure the lazy kate holds at least three bobbins.
