Niddy Noddies
A niddy-noddy is a tool that is used for winding yarn into skeins. Niddy-noddies are shaped kind of like a twisted, capital letter ‘I’, with a center bar attached at each end to a smaller bar. Some niddy-noddies can be pulled apart, which makes them much easier to transport.

A niddy-noddy can be used to estimate how much yarn you have in a skein. For example, if you have a two-yard (or 1 1/2 yard) niddy-noddy, you can count the number of wraps you’ve made and multiply by two (or by 1 1/2) to get a rough estimate of how many yards of yarn you’ve made.
